Beautiful US.  – With our dual meaning, I want to capture my reflections on humankind as a whole, but from the perspective of a United States citizen.  While I hope in the long run to come out on the other side of something beautiful, there is a bit of sarcasm hinted in that we will focus on the dirty, horrific, disgusting side of our very nature and those who continue to kick people down to reach the top.  Words we would like to consider a foundation.

“We hold these truths to be sacred & undeniable; that all men are created equal & independent, that from that equal creation they derive rights inherent & inalienable, among which are the preservation of life, & liberty, & the pursuit of happiness; that to secure these ends, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed; that whenever any form of government shall become destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, & to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles & organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety & happiness.”

~The Declaration of Independence

This leads us to our inevitable destination of what once was an idea for a social deconstruction from a cynical American man who’s been alive from Reagan to Trump.  Has witnessed Rodney King, to 9/11 to modern “caught on camera” violence.  To watch the Republican party give our democracy to corporations or to watch the Democrats try to disassemble it with their inter-sectionality and self righteous altruism.

The idea behind Beautiful US was originally to push an agenda.  I guess that is still, so the correct word here may be principles.  The idea of Personal Responsibility: how it plays in today’s society and how much control do we have of our lives to exercise it.  The idea of entitlement, and that false premise that just because you’re alive means you deserve things.  What is the limit for this?  Health care?  Tax breaks?  Religion?   And finally the every crowing acceptance of the philosophy that if something offends you, it should be shut down.  Freedom of Speech is our right in this country.  Is it being abused?  By everybody?  Is it misunderstood?

This idea was going to be approached over a variety of topics: Government, parenting, economics, the media, etc.  It was a chapter based book.  Recently I decided that I’m able to approach topics in this fashion through blog format.  It’s helped me organize and collect my thoughts and break them down in a way that works for me.  However this also includes the other endeavor.  The essay column.  This is the serious side of the zemation nexus with articles maybe from multiple authors, the Essay part is for me.

It’s my news desk.
